College Football 24-25: Week 8 Review

Never Count Out Georgia (#5 Georgia 30, #1 Texas 15)
Texas in the first half couldn't do anything right on offense. Quinn Ewers was benched in the second quarter as the Longhorns were shut out. Georgia's offense was accomplishing much either, throwing interceptions on two of their first three possessions, but they opened up a 23-0 lead by halftime. Ewers was back in action in the third quarter and things went a little better. However, Trevor Etienne's three touchdowns proved to be too much. While Carson Beck had a bad game, Georgia's rushing attack and defense did most of the work to help the Bulldogs hand Texas its first loss.

Rocky Top on Top (#11 Tennessee 24, #7 Alabama 17)
Nico Iamaleava couldn't do anything right in the first half. The Volunteers turned the ball over three times, but Alabama's offense couldn't do anything to capitalize on their mistakes. The Crimson Tide only managed one touchdown, leaving an entire half for Tennessee to get back into the game. Their greatest improvement game on the ground as Dylan Sampson finally found room to run. The lead changed hands several times in the second half, but Tennessee took the lead with less than six minutes left and never gave it back. The Volunteers served Alabama its second loss in three weeks after beating Georgia.

Undefeated Watch:
Oregon- The Ducks had no trouble with Purdue on Friday night, winning 35-0 for their first road shutout in 30 years.
Miami- Cam Ward (319 yards, 4 TDs) bolstered his Heisman candidacy by carving up the Louisville defense in a 52-45 shootout on the road against the Cardinals.
Penn State- While idle this week, the Nittany Lions remain undefeated at 6-0, with Ohio State two weeks away.
Iowa State- Aided by an undisciplined decision on a pick-six, Iowa State avoided a major upset against UCF, scoring late in the fourth quarter to win 38-35.
Indiana- The Hoosiers continued their surprising start by beating the breaks off Nebraska 56-7, though quarterback Kurtis Roarke will miss this coming week against Washington with a thumb injury.
BYU- Despite a good game by Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon III, the Cougars narrowly escaped with a three-point victory to move to 7-0.
Army & Navy- The military academies picked on the state of North Carolina on Saturday, routing East Carolina and Charlotte, respectively.
Pittsburgh- The Panthers were also off this week as one of the two remaining undefeated teams in the ACC.
Liberty- With just five games played, Liberty is the only undefeated team not in the Top 25 and will likely remain so after being idle this week.
