College Football 24-25: Week 5 Review

Georgia and Alabama Deliver the Game of the Year (#4 Alabama 41, #2 Georgia 34)
When a pair of Top 5 teams are scheduled to meet this early in the season, you expect to see fireworks. After Jalen Milroe started dismantling the Georgia defense, it looked like Alabama was going to wipe the floor with them. Leading 30-7 at halftime, Alabama was on their way to an unexpectedly easy victory. Then, out of nowhere, Georgia's offense found its legs. Georgia scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, taking a 34-33 lead with 2:31 left. That good feeling lasted 13 seconds. Milroe connected with freshman sensation Ryan Williams on a 75-yard strike to immediately retake the lead. Carson Beck's third interception of the game sealed the deal, earning Alabama a massive early-season victory.

Kentucky Finally Gets One (Kentucky 20, #6 Ole Miss 17)
Ole Miss drove down the field and made quick work of Kentucky on the first drive of the game. After that, the Rebels couldn't get anything going. Kentucky, who came dangerously close to beating Georgia a few weeks ago, was bailed out by an incredibly lucky bounce in the final minutes. Josh Kattus was in the right place at the right time to catch a fumble and fall across the goal line to take the lead with 2:25 left. Ole Miss moved the ball well, setting Caden Davis up for a game-tying field goal from 48 yards away. Unfortunately, Davis pushed it left, ending the Rebels' perfect season and giving Kentucky a massive road victory.

Trouble with the Duke(s) (Duke 21, North Carolina 20)
One week removed from an embarrassing loss to James Madison, North Carolina looked primed to bounce back against Tobacco Road rival Duke. The defense, which allowed 70 points last week, held Duke scoreless in the first half, leading 17-0 at the break. In the second half, the Blue Devils came alive behind Star Thomas. As his name would imply, the Duke running back was phenomenal in the final 30 minutes. Down 20-0, Thomas broke the shutout with a 5:49 left in the third quarter. Thomas added a short touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to six points. Peyton Jones' touchdown late in the fourth quarter put Duke ahead before Tre Freeman's interception in the dying seconds sealed the Victory Bell's return to Durham for the first time since 2018 as the Blue Devils are now 5-0.
